Echoes

My senior project for my BFA program as UMass Lowell

Echoes is a portrait of my grandparents. My maternal grandmother recently passed away and her husband, my grandfather, suffers from dementia. The story is nonlinear and shows a family as they move through archetypal life experiences in a continuous loop. The house, tree, and environment are parallels between the past and the present. Each tree is rooted in the foundation of a home and is horizontally mirrored on-screen. Even in the best weather, a tree can wither without proper support, but it can also sustain itself in the worst conditions with proper care. Trees portray growth and family lineage. The house itself is a representation of my own home and a common symbol for family.
